Together, letโs break free from plastic! Our official theme logo powerfully captures the message: The top part shows how plastic pollution ends up in our oceans, harming marine life and ecosystems. Frogs come in many colors and sizes, and can be found in a variety of habitats around the country. With 7,614 islands, the Philippines boasts a variety of herpetofauna that includes 112 amphibians and 361 reptiles (Diesmos et al. 2015; Uetz et al. 2018). ๐ฑ Remarkably, 84% of our amphibians and 66% of our reptiles are found nowhere else on Earth, making us a global leader in endemic species! In addition, numerous discoveries and research have been published, including the ๐๐ก๐๐ฉ๐ฎ๐ข๐๐ฃ๐ฉ๐๐จ ๐ฃ๐๐ซ๐๐ค๐ฉ๐ species description and discovery in 2021, which was co-authored by CCIPH's President and Chief Scientist, Dr. Neil Aldrin Mallari and Former Executive Director, Edmund Leo Rico. Amphibians play a key role in sustaining healthy ecosystems by connecting freshwater and terrestrial areas, both of which are important to our ecosystems. Unfortunately, they are also among the most vulnerable animals, facing alarming declines due to habitat loss from deforestation, pollution, and the intensifying impacts of climate change. This #WorldFrogDay, let's celebrate the captivating beauty of the Philippines' unique frog species. ๐ธ
